In Jan 2018 Canada announced the creation of an Ombudsperson for Responsible Business Enterprise to seek justice for those harmed by the overseas activities of Canadian mining and mineral exploration companies. Ten months has passed however with no indication of any implementation of this announcement. The United Church and its ecumenical partner KAIROS have for years called for the position and related powers to be created, given the scope and impact of Canadian extraction operations overseas. The United Church, KAIROS and other CNCA members are calling us to call on our government to act swiftly and set up a fair, transparent and independent ombuds office.  We're almost there! For action on this November campaign see CNCA.
